Case Study # 210 – The Ankle Bone is Connected to the Head Bone.
A major missing link in medicine and the healing arts is functional anatomy. All the parts of the body are connected and if one area is dysfunctional it will influence the rest. This was the case with Doug, a 68 year-old male who suffered severe left ankle pain for four weeks. He could barely walk when getting out of bed. Also of interest he was very skeptical of my concepts. His wife just about had two hit him with a 2 by 4 to get him in my office.
My examination revealed a left pronated foot, subluxation of his left calcaneous bone (heal bone) and pubic symphysis (where the two pelvic bones join). He also gave a history of having a concussion as a child, which revealed itself as a full reversed motion of the base of his skull. Because the brain/skull complex is connected to the sacrum by means of the dural tube (craniosacral system) a distortion of his left foot combined with a distortion of his cranial bones set Doug up for a structural distortion and pain. Interestingly, his chiropractor had made him custom orthotics for his pronation but its design did not meet the needs of the lack of physical support for his big toe. Why is this so important? Because in a pronated foot the outer heal hits first to elevate the arch, which subsequently prevents he big toe from contacting during walking. This factor is important because in reflexology the big toe relates to the cerebellum, which controls muscle function of the entire body. Because of the global nature of his problem, I had to treat his entire system at the same visit in order to achieve stability.
After completing a comprehensive cranial adjustment, I adjusted his calcareous bone, pubic symphysis, and inserted a 6 millimeter soft orthotic inserts into his shoes. I then asked Doug to walk down the hallway. When he returned, he was in amazement. His severe ankle pain was totally gone. His one week post treatment visit also was totally pain free. The take-away message is that a patient’s complaint has to be viewed globally and not just focus the the area of symptomatology. In addition, a practitioner MUST have a broad knowledge base to properly diagnose and treat these type problems.
