Lower Back Pain and Dental Bridgework
Dr. Smith’s research of over thirty-five years helped formulate the concept of the dental whole body connection. The history had its origin back in 1958 when an East Germany medical doctor, Reinhold Voll, made the connection by means of an electronic device (Dermatron) between each tooth and specific vertebrae, muscles, and organs in the body. In addition to the connection via the acupuncture meridians, which the Dermatron measured, there are structural (muscle and vertebral) interrelationships that have been discovered by the chiropractic and osteopathic professions. The integration of these ingenious discovers through intelligent evolution has resulted in one of the most advance diagnostic and treatment systems available today.
A perfect example of the dental whole body connection recently occurred when one of my patients presented with chronic lower back pain. Interestingly, Bob had a fixed three unit dental bridge placed many years ago and had no pain or discomfort associated with the work. Bob’s medical history revealed a hip replacement two years ago and for the past three weeks he has been getting physical therapy for a flair up of his back pain. The physical therapy did not result in any relief because it was not addressing the core issue.
When Bob was tested with applied kinesiology techniques his lower back muscles weaken when he closed his teeth together. With his mouth open, the muscles tested strong but weaken with teeth contact. This established that the bite was the primary initiating factor or “splinter” causing his pain. After adjusting the minor interference on his bridgework, Bob was instructed to walk down the hallway. When he returned he made the comment that 98% of his back pain disappeared. Occlusal or bite irregularities have the direct affect of triggering off neurologic signaling into the nervous system, which causes the muscles to spasm and cause pain. Traditional medicine has no clue of these interrelationships or even that they exist.
The moral of the story is that you have to be the CEO of your own body and do your own research to find practitioners who possess the latest technology to solve your problem.
