Loss of quality of life due to faulty Orthodontics
Greg was 15 years-old when he got braces. For two years he underwent treatment including “headgear” and rapid palatal expansion to “straighten” his teeth. Unbeknownst to him his cranium was simultaneously being distortored. At age 17 Greag’s orthodontic treatment was completed. The cranial distortions created by the orthodontic treatment set Greg up for an accident waiting to happen. The dike broke when in his early twenties he had his four wisdom teeth extracted. Immediately he developed sciatica, his left leg went numb, and he had difficulty walking. Additional symptoms of degeneration of his lower lumbar discs appeared. Since these symptoms were far removed from his teeth, the doctors he sought to remedy his problems never connected the dots. At twenty-three he was enrolled in law school but because of his severe fatigue, sleep issues, neck and lower back pain, and stiffness throught out his body he had to complete his studies at home.
Consultations with rheumatologists, orthopedic surgeons, chiropractors, and dentists had no answers to resolve Greg’s problems. With many hours of searching the internet, reading articles, and interviewing orthodontists all over the world Greg finally realized that his problems stemed from the combination of full mouth braces plus extraction of his wisdom teeth. These supposedly routine treatments were the cause that sent him into a tail spin for ten years. The treatment plans offered by conventional orthodontists were too invasive and didn’t address his underlying distortions.
Greg was referred to me by a dental specialist in the United Kingdom. After a telephone consultation and Greg sitting in on several of my professional seminars, Greg decided to embark on treatment. The ALF appliance was initiated to start unwinding the cranial distortions created by conventional orthodontic treatment and collapse of his cranium, which resulted from his third molar extractions. Over a period of one year Greg started to get his life back together. His neck and lower back pain greatly deminished along with his stiffness and recently his right TMJ crunching, clicking and pain totally resolved. The consensus amoung conventional orthodontists and dentists is that TMJ problems cannot be resolved. This position is based on functional anatomic ignorance on how the body works. Once the cranial bone alignment was achieved, the right TM Joint started to work properly. In addition, his spine and all associated structures (muscles, ligaments, nerves, lymphatics, etc) began normalizing.
What is really interesting is the fact that when Greg first came to my office, his father had to Dr him. He could not tolerate sitting for more than two hours. A year later Greg is able to fly, Dr and sit for long peroids without pain. The moral of the story is unless you ask the “right questions” and your doctor is addressing your underlying issues, you better think twice before engaging treatment.
